Information
needed:
| WHAT |
What is
the event? Where are we going, or doing?
What type of event?
|
| |
Tour:
moderate to brisk pace, often overnight, usually includes
planned meals or other social activity
Performance Drive: Fast-paced drive; the drive is the
purpose; not your grandmother's event
Social Event: Anything you think others would enjoy;
no drive necessary, other than getting there
|
| WHERE |
Where do
we start and finish? |
| WHEN |
When do
you want to do this? Remember that events can overlap.
We want folks to have a choice. However, please try not to schedule
a similar event to one that is already on the calendar at the
same time. (For example, a tour could overlap a track event,
as the participant list would probably differ.) |
| HOW |
Is this
to be a rain or shine event, or will it be canceled or postponed
in the event of bad weather? |
| WHY |
Because
you own a Miata! |
Event
Planning
If
you have never prepared and/or lead a Miata event, it can appear
overwhelming. Although it looks hard, it really isn't. Basically,
if there is something you, a Lone Star Chapter member, enjoy doing
in or with your wonderful car, it's likely others would also enjoy
it. Here are some tips to make it easier for you, and enjoyable
for all.
- First, choose
an event type: tour, overnight trip, enthusiast run, social event,
etc. Second, check with the
President on available dates, and then get busy!
- Get a partner
to help. Having two members involved lightens the workload, plus
it provides a backup.
- Have complete
directions, with mileage, so that no one is dependent on "keeping
up." Run the route a couple of times (if possible.) One of
these runs should be close to the event date to assure that the
roads have not succumbed to construction.
- Allow for
breaks every 60-90 minutes. Allow plenty of time for these --
Miata fold like to talk and visit.
- For overnight
tours, try to have alternative hotels for overflow, or a choice
of costs. The easiest way to handle hotels is to reserve a block
of rooms, but have the members make their own reservations.
- Same for
the meals - not everyone may care for Chuck-e-Cheese, or can afford
the Ritz.
- If you need
help, contact the President
or any of the officers!
The
site is designed with the Miata driver in mind. We will try to cater
to all of our members with special interests. Whether you are interested
in performance driving, show cars, social gatherings or just want
to talk Miata then we plan to have something for you.
Please drop
the Web Master a line if you have any suggestions for the
site. Articles, photos and "after action reports" of club
events are always welcome. So send in your sea stories and photos
in a digital format so that the rest of the Miata world can enjoy
them as well.
This site was
created with the help of Lone Star Miata Club members. Thank you
to all of those involved in the creation of this site.
